Everything
you need to
know about Acupuncture…

  • It is absolutely safe when administered by a fully qualified and experienced practitioner. Such as me! The needles are thin, single use sterilized needles that are disposed of immediately after use. I follow all the BAcC codes of conduct and am fully insured by them. I also have a full license from Tunbridge Wells Council accrediting my safety to work with, and dispose of, needles safely.

  • I will take a full, in-depth medical history so your first appointment will take longer than any future appointments. Its best to wear loose clothing, as you will most likely have needles placed in your lower arms and legs. I may also need to access your tummy and back but I will inform you of everything I intend to do. With 361 points to choose from if you’re not comfortable with something I can always find an alternative.

I will also need to look at your tongue. This does sound strange and you’ll probably feel a bit silly the first couple of times but it is the oldest diagnostic tool in Chinese Medicine and tells me a huge amount about what is happening with your body right now. I will also feel six pulse positions on your wrists.

It can all feel a bit strange for the first time but I will talk you through each stage and please do feel free to ask me anything. I really do love Acupuncture and welcome any opportunity to talk about it.

  • You really don’t need to anything. I would suggest that you don’t squeeze your appointment in within lots of other errands, as it’s more beneficial to be able to have a calmer day to allow the treatment to do its work. And wear loose and comfortable clothing.

  • This really does depend on why you are coming. At your first appointment I will give you my honest opinion regarding this and we can come up with a treatment plan together.

  • The main very happy side affect is that people generally enjoy a very good nights sleep after a treatment. There can occasionally be other side affects but I will talk you through these as it really does depend on what is being treated.

  • Acupuncture works as an adjunct to Western Medicine and not as a replacement but it has been proven to help ease symptoms associated with terminal and chronic illness.

  • Eastern Medicine has a very different starting point to what we are used to in the West. My aim is to restore, promote and maintain health i.e. don’t wait to be ill to have a treatment. It’s all about restoring and maintaining the balance of the body to prevent illness. When the body and mind are in a coherent state it is in a better position to fight illness, repair itself and protect against illness and fatigue.
